What are the new things God has given us? (Part 1)

In Scripture, we read of a lot of new things God has given us. Many of these things speak of the future, but there are also examples of new things that have been established.
  • Luke 5:36-38  'Then He spoke a parable to them: “No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one, otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old.  And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined.  But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.' This is a picture of Judaism and taking pieces of Christianity to patch it up. This spoils both. God has brought us new things only to be contained in 'new bottles'. It is fresh and has power.
  • John 3:3 'Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' This is the thought of new birth and new nature. The old nature is something that we still have. God has given us a new nature that is capable of doing so much more and enables us to have communion with God. This is a great privilege.
  • John 13:34 'A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another' This commandment may seem impossible, but we have been enabled to do this by our new nature.
