This weeks questions is: is it a good idea for us as believers to do something new?
This could also be called innovation. In Deuteronomy 32:17, we read 'they sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals, that your fathers did not fear.' The children of Israel had made a drastic change; they turned to false gods. They gave up something good, for something that was completely worthless and bad. If we are in danger of giving up something good, we must think again.
In 2 Samuel 6:3, the Israelites had lost the ark in battle, and they were bringing it back. 'So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.' 2 Samuel 6:3. God had told the children of Israel that the ark had to be carried. Uzzah and Ahio may have meant well by using a new cart to carry the ark, but it was against what God had commanded. For us, we must remember that if we want to change something, we must ensure that it is scriptural.
Joash became king at the young age of 7. He knew that the temple had been put in a terrible condition, as we read in 2 Chronicles 24:7 'For
the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken into the house of
God, and had also presented all the dedicated things of the house of the
Lord to the Baals.' At a young age, the king chose to renew the house. This is good innovation. When a believer looks around and sees something wrong, he can take action and encourage others to do something. Only then is resistance overcome and the work echos in other peoples hearts.
