New Situations

Today's question is: How do we react as believers to new situations?
In Exodus 1:8, there was a sudden change for the Israelites. 'Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.' It is evident from the verses we read later on that this new king had no intention of making life easy for the Israelites. These verses also show that:
  • God allows difficulties
  • God has a plan, though He may not carry it out immediately
God wanted to exercise His people. We read that they cried out to the Lord to deliver them from the Egyptians at the Red Sea, for example. He had a plan prepared, so in retrospect, we can see that God is almighty and does well for His people. How do go about a new situation?

There are also new situations that are good. In Deuteronomy 22:8, there is an example of when a new house is built: 'When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring guilt of bloodshed on your household if anyone falls from it.'. The houses in Arab countries will often have flat roofs, and this was no different in the Old Testament times. The one who built the house would know where the danger was, but a stranger may not. So the Lord instructed them to build a parapet round the roof, like a wall. It had to be done NOW, not later, so there was no danger. This shows us that the God cares so much for our safety, and even in good situations there is an element of danger. Maybe we get WiFi; this is not in itself a bad thing. But what can be done to reduce the risk to our children who may not have the understanding of what they should and should not do.
Be thoughtful of happy new situations and the danger it may have to others.
