I Promise

Hi, how’s it going? It’s been a bit longer than I hoped I would last write up here, but as you know…commitment issues ;)
Anyway, I recently came across this beautiful song by two Christian artists Jaci Velasquez and Johnny Ramirez  (who I’ve actually never heard of before, but I certainly loved this song).

It really is hard hitting- especially the second verse. It is so easy for us to give love away so readily and without any consultation with God. We often talk of having so much faith in God's plan, but a lot of the time, we also forget that He is the one who puts people in our life- including our future spouse. It should also be remembered that the Lord has a plan for each of us, and this may include not getting married. Disappointing? Paul wrote to the Corinthians that "It is good for them if they remain even as I am" (1 Corinthians 7) that is, unmarried. Of course, that does not mean that being married is a bad thing. Quite the opposite. But I suppose it gives you more of an opportunity to commit more of your life to the Lord, as you do not have quite so many commitments.

But I think I've gone off on a bit of a tangent. What I really wanted to focus on was the chorus of this song. Here's a reminder of it:

So I promise to be true to you
To live my life in purity
As unto you
Waiting for the day
When I hear you say
Here is the one I have created just for you

In our own strength, we will find it very difficult, no, impossible to be pure. We have lustful thoughts and what was it that Jesus said about those in Matthew 5:28? "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (This also counts for women in regard to men). Time with the Lord in prayer and reading the Bible will help us to focus our thoughts on Him throughout our day and we have the God given strength to resist these thoughts. The only way that we will be able to stay pure is through the Lord's strength, not our own. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
