Daily Manna
In Exodus, there is the event of the children of Israel receiving manna as their daily food. This was given to them by God. They were commanded ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s need' Exodus 16:16. How can we apply this to our lives? In our quiet times, we take as much as we can manage. You wouldn't expect a small child who has just learnt to read to read a whole chapter in the morning. No, it would discourage them. It is important that we digest what we read so that we can think about it during our day. When we start having regular quiet times, we often start with too much ambition. We think 'I can do 1 hour of study'. Have you ever managed to do 1 hour study for school without distraction? It's difficult, and it's something we learn to do. Over time we spend more time on our quiet times, and this way, we will learn to enjoy and take in what we learn.
